Hope everyone had a great weekend! On Thursday we had a couple of invites from friends to have Thanksgiving with them because we weren't having family over until saturday. We were actually thinking of going to Golden Coarral since we had free coup's but we decided we'd rather be with friends instead. It was great! We learned a new way to cook a turkey and then cooked our own for the FIRST time on Saturday! We covered it in miraclewhip/barbq seasoning and cooked it on a charcoal grill.SO tender. Thank goodness for choosing to cook it on a grill because saturday morning just as AJ was online paying the electric bill our power in our neighborhood and surrounding area went out for about 2 hours. Kinda makes it hard to prepare a meal for 10 people with no electricity!Anyway, everything worked out and it was great to be with friends and fam this weekend.

Most people watch football on Thanksgiving, we watched AJ and his brother play it on xbox. Close enough.
We set up our puny and sparce charlie brown tree, hoping it would prevent Gavin from too much destruction.Nope. I put a few glass ornaments towards the top and somehow he got to one and broke it on the carpet conveniently during the power outage, so we were dragging our hands along the carpet in the dark trying to clean it up.

No Thanksgiving is complete without Whipped cream shots. That's my boy.

Did everyone get out bright and early on black friday? AJ had to be on the air at 5am that day. We researched the online deals that were going to be happening, went to sears early in the week to check out a treadmill, then bought it online Thursday night after they dropped the price a few hundred bucks.I LOVE IT!It's our christmas/birthday present for the next 5 years :) Did you hear about the sad story at a Walmart in NY where a 'temp' employee got trampled to death by a crowd of about 2,000 trying to save a buck? They had 6 employees to watch the door but the crowd busted them in.One of the employees was 8mo pregnant.Sad sad day when people value the discount on a coffee grinder more than life. HERE from the NY Times.
*Update: Tara asked that I post the recipe we used for our turkey. We had a 20lb-er but the size doesn't matter. You can use Mayonaise but since we are miracle whip people we used a medium jar of that.Mixed miracle whip with a packet of barbque seasoning (specifically Grillmates Barbque seasoning but it doesn't matter) in a bowl and set aside. Did all turkey cleaning etc (yuk, sorry I think its gross). Prepared grill-put charcoals on left and right side of grill.Put tinfoil over rack.Waited until coals were grey before placing turkey in center of rack, uncovered.Lathered on seasoning mix generously :) Closed grill, check back about every hour and a half-ish. Each time we'd check on it we'd put more of the seasoning mix on it. It took us 5 hours or so to cook it but only because the coals were cooling off, even after adding charcoal to each side, because it was so cold outside so we brought it back to our house and put it in the oven (covered in foil) for an hour at 350.Once the temp in the thigh is 180 you are good to go!Serve and eat all weekend long!

I'm glad that you guys had a good Thanksgiving, even with the power outage. Thanks again AJ for picking us up from the airport!
I know..that wal mart story is the saddest thing. Makes me sick to my stomach! I haven't braved the Black Friday crowds for a few years now..but like you said, the online deals are seriously just as good...and usually free shipping (ok, maybe not on treadmills!) That turkey recipe sounds so interesting! Will you post it!?
Sure!I'll add an update to this blog post
